321 Improfestival Mainz and the team behind it want to create a safe and healthy environment of work – physically as well as emotionally! We believe that creative braveness only evolves in a safe and nurturing space. That is what we want to provide throughout the festival-weekend.
Our Code of Conduct applies to all areas of the festival: workshops, rehearsals, shows, jams, backstage, social events, and digital spaces (messenger, social media etc.). It applies to everyone equally: participants, trainers, staff, volunteers, press, audience, and external service providers.
Due to their position of exposure (on stage, in workshops, or in the organisation) everyone has the duty to do everything in their power to guarantee safety and respect of everyone, encourage positive behaviours and address problematic ones.
The organisation team asks each festival attendee to be aware of power dynamics and treat everyone equally and respectfully. Under no circumstances is it appropriate for a trainer, performer, or staff member to use their position to force any physical, sexual, or emotional attention from anyone else.
For all spaces we encourage an atmosphere of consent and awareness of boundaries. Everyone has always the right to refuse to take part, to be part, or to continue anything that makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe without explanation.
Also in the spirit of respectful and considerate interaction, we encourage the responsible use of alcohol and other substances in the context of workshops, jams, and shows. Everyone’s safety and wellbeing should be the intention.
As undesirable behaviour we see:
• Discrimination, hate speech, microaggressions (e.g. racist, sexist, queerphobic, transphobic, ableist, classist, religiously derogatory)
• Unwanted touching, sexualized comments, intimacy without explicit, informed consent
• Intimidation, stalking, repeated unwanted contact (online/offline)
By purchasing/receiving a festival pass or participating in events, you agree to this Code of Conduct. Violations may result in actions delivered by the festival awareness team:
• Notice and clear boundary setting
• Moderated discussion with the a-team
• Exclusion from session/workshop/show
• Withdrawal of festival passes/participation
• Ban from the premises
The power of interpretation lies with the awareness-team.
